Garden Views

Seasonal views of my own garden in the north Georgia mountains, for your enjoyment!

My garden provides endless delight throughout the seasons.  I experiment with different plant combinations as well as new plant types to learn more about planting design in visual and practical terms.

Arum italicum, Italian Arum

Arum italicum, Italian Arum, July 2013

I enjoy using unusual plants that give unexpected results.  The Italian Arum (aka European Ginger?) gets showy leaves in autumn that die back in spring.  At the same times the leaves are finishing, a large creamy spathe flower appears.  As summer progresses, the flowers turn to these unusual seed stalks, changing from green to red.  A terrific addition to a shady spot throughout the year!

Hydrangea seedlings

Hydrangea seedlings, July 2013

I consider myself lucky in the garden.  I get lots of perennials to reseed.  That often means I have to move them to a more desirable location.  I never knew Hydrangeas would reseed naturally. Here are some seedlings that have appeared in the rustic stone steps in one of my flower beds.  They’ll get new homes this autumn.
